In early summer of this year my best friend Caleb had to undergo emergency surgery to remove his entire thyroid, due to a growth previous doctors had ignored. Despite major surgery, medical trauma and the mental as well as physical toll the removal of a thyroid causes, he was only allowed minimal time off work and forced to adhere to a strict deadline, working long hours every day when his body needed time to heal. Now the deadline has finally run out, but the toll this ordeal took on his body is not yet over.
