Help Minerva and Family Visit Dad
Donation protected
Hello everyone, my name is Minerva Colon. I am 27 years old, and the photo representing this campaign is my only photo with my father. On March 24th, I got the most devastating message a daughter could ever receive: "My biopsy came back positive for cancer." When I was a child I dreamed of the day I could hug my dad, and stare at his face and see myself in him. When I was 13 years old, we were finally able to locate my father through facebook and later that night was the first time I ever heard his voice. We laughed and cried and he told me that he had been looking for me for years. Time passed and I took for granted how quickly life can change, he lives in Puerto Rico so visiting him has been something that is expensive to do. Over 10 years ago, he was involved in a near-fatal accident and put on disability indefinitely. My father hasn't had an easy life, and my heart cannot rest until I am with him during this time. He has shared that he wants to meet my daughter, my partner and I before his diagnosis and I need to make that happen for him, as well as for myself.
I am a full time student, fully dependent on my partner at the moment. My partner recently lost his job and started a new one. But, this new job cut our income in half.
The unexpected diagnosis has left me with a completely reopened wound that stems from the earliest memories of my childhood. I cannot let my father go through this without the security of knowing that his family did everything they could to be there for him and support him. The funds from this fundraiser will be going towards travel and stay expenses to get my family to Puerto Rico to stay with my dad during his treatment. I also would like to have enough money to give my dad an opportunity to show us our motherland, and give us memories to make up for the time we lost, and may not get to make in the future. I am not someone who asks for help, I will sell everything I own on top of asking for these blessings. My heart will not rest until I am able to wrap my hands around my daddy. Every donation is valued, treasured, and the biggest blessing. If you can't afford to donate, every share is just as appreciated.
Thank you.
