Help Christopher revalideren en terug naar huis komen

Op 25 november werd ons leven volledig op zijn kop gezet. Christopher kreeg meerdere hersenklonters en belandde in coma. Na een intense en onzekere periode is hij er gelukkig nog — maar de weg naar herstel is lang en zwaar.

Vandaag staat Christopher aan het begin van zijn revalidatie. Momenteel bevindt hij zich in het locked-in syndroom. Dat betekent dat hij bewust is en alles meemaakt, maar zich nauwelijks kan bewegen of uiten. Hoe ver zijn herstel zal gaan, weten we niet. Wat we wél weten, is dat we hem alle kansen willen geven.

Ons grootste doel is om Christopher opnieuw thuis te krijgen, in zijn vertrouwde omgeving, omringd door zijn gezin.

Helaas brengt dit ook grote financiële zorgen met zich mee. Niet alle noodzakelijke kosten worden gedekt door de mutualiteit. We moeten ons huis aanpassen zodat het toegankelijk wordt voor een rolstoel: bredere deuropeningen, een aangepaste badkamer en andere noodzakelijke voorzieningen. Daarnaast is ook een aangepast voertuig nodig om hem veilig te kunnen vervoeren naar therapieën en afspraken.

Daarom doen wij een beroep op jullie hulp.

Elke bijdrage, groot of klein, helpt ons om deze aanpassingen mogelijk te maken en Christopher de beste kans te geven op herstel en een leven thuis.

Aidez Christopher à se rééduquer et à rentrer chez lui

Le 25 novembre, notre vie a complètement basculé. Christopher a été victime de plusieurs caillots cérébraux et est tombé dans le coma. Après une période intense et incertaine, il est heureusement toujours parmi nous — mais le chemin vers la guérison est long et difficile.

Aujourd’hui, Christopher commence sa rééducation. Il se trouve actuellement dans un syndrome d’enfermement (locked-in syndrome). Cela signifie qu’il est conscient et ressent tout, mais qu’il ne peut presque pas bouger ni s’exprimer. Nous ne savons pas jusqu’où ira sa récupération, mais une chose est certaine : nous voulons lui donner toutes les chances possibles.

Notre plus grand souhait est de pouvoir le ramener à la maison, dans son environnement familier, entouré de sa famille.

Malheureusement, cela engendre des coûts importants. Tous les frais ne sont pas couverts par la mutualité. Nous devons adapter notre maison pour la rendre accessible en fauteuil roulant : élargir les portes, aménager une salle de bain adaptée et réaliser d’autres aménagements nécessaires. De plus, un véhicule adapté est indispensable pour ses déplacements vers les soins et les thérapies.

C’est pourquoi nous faisons appel à votre aide.

Help Christopher recover and come back home

On November 25th, our lives changed completely. Christopher suffered multiple brain clots and fell into a coma. After an intense and uncertain period, he is thankfully still with us — but the road to recovery is long and challenging.

Today, Christopher is ready to begin his rehabilitation. He is currently in a locked-in syndrome. This means he is fully conscious and aware, but can barely move or communicate. We do not know how far his recovery will go, but one thing is certain: we want to give him every possible chance.

Our greatest wish is to bring Christopher back home, to his familiar environment, surrounded by his family.

Unfortunately, this situation comes with significant financial challenges. Not all costs are covered by health insurance. We need to adapt our home to make it wheelchair accessible: widening doorways, installing an adapted bathroom, and making other essential modifications. In addition, a specially adapted vehicle is necessary to transport him safely to treatments and therapy sessions.
