Hi, my name is Cali, and I’m 17 years old. I never imagined I’d be writing this. Just days ago, our world was shattered— my dad, Miguel, passed away suddenly at only 41 years old.

He wasn’t just my father— he was my best friend, my protector, and the person who made me feel safe no matter what. He had the biggest heart, the loudest laugh, and a presence that filled every room.

If you knew my dad you knew generosity. You knew someone who would drop everything to help a friend, a family member, a co-worker, or even a stranger.

He treated his employees like family. He assisted when someone was struggling, bought meals for others, and helped people get back on their feet. He believed in taking care of people, and he did, every single day.

But while he gave so much of himself to others, he missed out on moments at home— school games, dinners, family time— because he was always working or helping someone in need. He was a man who carried the world on his shoulders so others didn’t have to.

Yet, his children were his greatest joy. He was proud to be a father to his only son, the fourth to carry his name, and his four beautiful daughters. He always wanted the best for them and overworked himself to do so.

Now he’s gone and the pain is indescribable. Five children no longer have their dad to be there for them and guide them through life. He will miss so much as we miss him being there.

Now, our mom is left trying to hold our family together while grieving the man she loved for so many years.

We are humbling asking for help to keep our family afloat during this devastating time. We were in total shock to find out that our dads life insurance was terminated just 3 months ago. This was the safety net he relied on for his family and paid monthly towards for over a decade. The nature of his job also meant that there was no security in a 401k either.
