Help Melissa Secure a Safe Future for Her Kids

Hello, my name is Melissa.

I am a single mom with four children in my home, plus one who lives on their own. In February of 2023, I finally had the courage and support to escape my abusive husband. My five children and I have endured up to 10 years of mental, verbal, and physical abuse. I have also endured financial and sexual abuse as well. Because I chose to take a stand against my husband, he filed for divorce a month later. This past year and eight months have been harder than I could have ever imagined. Despite my husband's need to continue to control, abuse, and manipulate me and our three children, I have worked incredibly hard to provide just the basic needs of my family and have succeeded thus far. I've jumped through so many of the same hoops over and over again just to keep us afloat. I have also been blessed by so many people helping us through all of this in outstanding ways. I can't remember the last time I felt so completely loved! I would not have been able to do it without them, and I'm so overwhelmed with gratitude.

Now I'm reaching outside of my circle to ask for help, as this is a bigger financial need than I'm able to come up with or ask of my family and friends. I've been trying to figure out how I'm going to find the funds in just a couple of weeks, to be able to afford my divorce trial. This divorce could have been finalized over a year ago. But because my husband refuses to compromise, or communicate and will not give up his need to control and abuse, here we still are. Spending precious time and money on attorney and court fees, rather than on our lives and children.
