Support a young changemaker from Myanmar!

My name is Dr. Aung Than Oo. I currently hold a Rotary Peace fellowship at the Rotary Peace Center of Makerere University Uganda, and am the EU-ASEAN youth forum delegate of 2022. I also hold the ASEAN Biodiversity Youth Leader fellowship 2019 (ACB). I have international working experiences and advocacy works for environmental conservation related to disaster risk prevention project (UNU-IAS).

I have been accepted as a fellow at the Global Environments Summer Academy (GESA) 2022 hosted by the Global Diversity Foundation and the University of Oxford’s Environmental Change Institute. This 5-month long programme, encompassing a 4-month online fellowship and a 12-day in-person Academy, brings together emerging changemakers who are actively seeking solutions to some of the most pressing ecological and social issues of our time. GESA brings together emerging environmental and social changemakers from around the world and offers the much-needed support including training, mentoring, networking and capacity-building to help individuals and groups thrive and innovate in their crucial work for social and ecological justice and wellbeing.

By being part of this fellowship, I will gain the skills I need to make the difference I long to make, by learning and exchanging innovative ideas and solutions for our future. The GESA program is essential for training young changemakers as future leaders and professionals. As a humanitarian and public health professional, I expect my participation to benefit my community, the youth of my country and my country's policy-making processes in general.

The full cost of the Academy is GBP2,500 (USD3150). I have been awarded a bursary to participate but I still need to raise an additional USD2000 to cover the rest of the fee and USD 1450 for my international travel from Myanmar to UK. I am from a low income country in the ASEAN region, currently under military coup, so I need financial support to continue my education for biodiversity.
