Help Me Help Kenya!

Those of you who know me well, know about my heart for Africa, Kenya in particular. I started this page to tell you about an amazing opportunity Jon and I have to go back to Kenya this summer and I am hoping that you can help get us there. We cannot do this without you, but we really believe in this cause and have watched this organization change countless lives over the past 10 years. This page is designed to be a simple and safe way to donate to our cause to help Kenya. Facebook is known for promoting many different causes, and allowing its users to donate. This is a bit different becasue you will actually be giving to someone you know (Jon and I) : ).  Every donation will personally help me and my husband do work in Kenya through the non-profit organization, Expansion International. I am very excited about this particular mission trip because it is very dear to my heart.

So, here's the gist...about 20 years ago a group of Kenyans from the Kikuyu tribe lost their homes during tribal clashes. For the past 20 years they have been refugees in their own country without proper documentation to reclaim their land. For the past 10 years they have been living in squalor tucked away from the community within a forest in a place known as the Kieni refugee camp. In times past I have been blessed to participate in various medical and children's ministry to this particular area. We have even planted a church in the community there. But this past summer things have really changed for the people there as the government has agreed to make steps in order to right the wrongs of the past and relocate the refugees to their own land. I cannot tell you how excited I am about this! This is really huge! I remember walking into this particular camp almost 10 years ago to do a medical camp there. These people are amazing and it is really incredible that the government is stepping in and they have a chance to own their own property once again. Talk about a season to start a new! Can you tell that I'm stoked!
            My husband and I have the amazing opportunity to be a part of this re-location process this coming summer. This has been years in the making. We will be helping to build new homes for the people of Kieni and we will also be hosting a medical camp and doing children's ministry to the Masaii tribes in Loitoktok. The Masaii people are some of my favorite people! As non-medical personnel we will be assisting in the triage area, taking temperatures, weighing patients, and documenting past medical histories. We will also be working in the pharmacy, counting medications as well as helping with children's ministry and brick building. This cannot be done without volunteers, and those of us who are volunteering, need help getting there.

I hope that you will join us on this mission trip with your prayers and financial support. If you would like to be our prayer partners I will send you our itinerary and prayer needs for ourselves and the team. That way you can keep up with us where ever we are each day and know what specific items to pray for while we are away.

Jon and I are working hard to raise $3500 each to cover expenses for this trip (The majority of the money is going to airfare) and we hope you will pray about your part in financially supporting us. If you do want to give to help us make a difference across seas. You can easily and securely give through this website. If all of my FB friends gave $10 It would literally cover my whole trip expenses (airfare, food/lodging, visas, insurance).
