Hello, my name is James Roda. Thirteen years ago, on 10/05/13, I was purposely run into by a drunk driver. One moment I was crossing the street, and the next I was suffering from a traumatic brain injury so severe the left side of my skull was surgically removed to give room for my brain to expand, and then put into a coma. I am now legally blind, epileptic, with a loss of my past memories, and currently with short-term memory loss, which affects my daily abilities. The woman who ran into me going 40 mph was eventually sentenced and only served half her time in prison. We then took her to civil court where we were granted a judgment against her for all the damage she's caused, but was told I'd never receive any financial help from her. Since her release, she has resumed regular living, while my life has been significantly altered. I have lost the sense of my independence, identity, and ability to do any basic daily activity without assistance. I've lost the hope to have any meaningful career advancement, or be able to work a job that allows me to be financially stable. And although I have tried really hard to make the best out of what has been done to me, some legal actions that I can't go into detail with have been taken and I have now been put in the position of needing to hire some legal help.
I'm looking for some support from my community to help me defend myself from the woman who has already taken everything from me. If anyone can be so kind to help me or share my story, I will appreciate it more than anyone can imagine. Thank you all so much for your help!
