Help Me Buy Nice Stuff for a Family Shelter
Donation protected
Hi folks! Recently, I got involved with a NYC group called Open Hearts Initiative that tries to shore up support in different neighborhoods for various kinds of supportive housing and shelters (because there is often great opposition). There is a women and kids shelter in my neighborhood (Ridgewood Queens) called the Summerfield Residence with about 125 women and nearly 300 kids! I'm helping Open Hearts organize a "free store" on Fri Aug 17 where residents can come in and take new and gently used stuffed animals, clothes, toiletries, toys and more. We'll also have a storyteller! However, our efforts to source this stuff from the neighborhood alone are proving anemic and I hate the thought of some, not all, women and kids getting something. So I've undertaken my own fundraiser so I can get in my car a few days before and go buy a bunch of stuffed animals, kids' books and toys, women's toiletries, etc, so we can fill out the inventory. Would you kindly donate something? If I can hit $5,000, I can get a nice haul and I will be very transparent and even show receipts (unlike Miss Diane Sawyer!). THANK YOU! This means a lot to me —I want this event to be a success.
