Help me buy a car to drive to work.

Hi,

I thought my 1999 Olds would last forever (it only had 90K miles on it when I bought it in 2006 and only 130K now), but in the last year it has cost me more in repairs than it is worth (in the last 18 months, probably twice what it is worth). It's time to cut the poor girl loose.

My co-worker is selling her 2007 Nissan Ultima  for $3000 (which is an excellent deal). It's in good shape (Plus A/C that actually works!) and I need a car to get to work and back and pet sit and run the pets to the vet and back, etc.. She's in no hurry, and I think I can get $1000 together by the end of the summer with the pet sitting and selling stuff, but I need help. Big time.

People may be wondering, "Why doesn't she go get a car loan like everyone else?"

Well, I'm only two years out of bankruptcy with a Sallie Mae loan that I am only making partial payments on. Their official loan payment is almost my entire monthly paycheck. So according to lenders, I can't afford to make monthly payments on anything else. I can't even get one of those emergency credit cards from the Veterinarian's office.

So, with the exception for a trip to Maine for my mother's funeral (thank you Karen) I have been living within my means.

Now I can't.

So please help me buy a "new" car so I can keep my job!
