Help Me Attend this Mokuhanga Workshop at Anderson Ranch

Beschermde donatie
Hi Everyone! I'm raising money to take a Mokuhanga (Japanese Woodblock) workshop at Anderson Ranch called, "Contemporary Mokuhanga: Experimental and Alternative Methods" taught by the incredible Yoonmi Nam. I am excited about this course because Yoonmi is a vastly experienced printmaker and knows this woodblock technique extensively. She was my thesis chair in graduate school, yet I did not have an opportunity to take her course while in school. I'm looking forward to learning from her while playing with new/experimental methods!

This one week course runs from June 1 - June 5, 2026. I have been working in Mokuhanga since my trip to MI-LAB (Mokuhanga Innovation Laboratory) located in Japan in 2022, part of a study abroad trip. For the last four years, I have been continuing this practice as an addition to my painting and ceramic practice. Prints have allowed me to create multiples and share my work with a wider audience.

Additionally, I have taught five sessions of introductory Mokuhanga to my Foundation students at The Kansas City Art Institute. Not only will these skills benefit me, but they may spread to future classes!

Lately, I have been playing with creating woodblock prints of earth pigment watercolor paintings I have made. During this Anderson Ranch workshop, I am excited to see how I can further align my local pigment interests with Mokuhanga, and continue to bring my painting practice into this medium!

I hope you will support this effort. I am an adjunct teacher at KCAI and money is always tight. I am just making enough to cover my basic living costs. These kinds of efforts require additional funding and support. By supporting me taking this class, you're investing in my practice and allowing me to push my skills further. You're opening doors to opportunities I otherwise could not afford. Thank you for taking the time!

List of Costs:

-Course Price $965 (this is after I received 50% off, includes some supplies, welcome dinner, daily lunch, and studio fees)
-Housing / Meals $881 (twin bed in a shared room onsite. Includes breakfast and 5 dinners)
-Travel $450 (Looks like I will fly, this is the cost of the cheapest flight with a carryon bag. My car has over 300,000 miles and I'm not super confident in driving it this far, so I will fly)

Thank you! SIDE NOTE:
Next year is the International Mokuhanga Conference (summer 2027) which will take place in Lawrence, Kansas-- city of my graduate school University of Kansas! It's beautiful to see this international connection happening through Kansas and the abundance of this tradition, through artists like Yoonmi and places like MI-LAB who have cultivated and shared this tradition! Also, I have plans to go to Japan in 2027 to take the Advanced Mokuhanga Workshop at MI-LAB-- that's a whole other opportunity I'll be hoping to fund. Stay tuned!
