My name is Kayla Boyer and on 03/13/2024 the side of my apartment was on fire. That day started out like any other day for me and my son who just turned 2 on march 5th. We got done eating and started playing when I noticed a weird smell that I brushed off as something outside maybe being burned. I was near our front window when I noticed a man in a Berkshire gas shirt looking at my house towards the back with a frantic look on his face. I tried to knock on the window to get his attention but he ran to the back of our house. Something inside me made me get my son and run out the apartment. When I reached the door we use to go down the stairs outside black smoke billowed in so I shut that door and opened the one next to that one and ran us down the inside stairs outside. If we didn’t get out when we did we wouldn’t have made it out the door either from smoke or fire. As grateful as I am to the man who alarmed me, the fire men and police men who helped put out the fire we are still not able to live in our apartment until the repairs are made. We were told a few weeks and later a month that it would take to repair the damage. I haven’t heard anything from my landlord about being housed so we are really just living on a prayer that something comes through for us so we can be placed somewhere safe until our apartment is fixed. We are looking for help with housing, food, clothes and I’m a single mother and I can’t afford any of these expenses so anything anyone can give will be greatly appreciated from both me and my son!
