Help Marie get her Custom Wheelchair
Spende geschützt
Hi, my name is Marie and I am a 52-year-old disabled artist and writer who, after living with an undiagnosed disability for 3 years, found out I had Spina Bifida at 40 years of age. I have used many mobility and assistive devices over the last 15 years, and recently got approved for my first custom lightweight wheelchair. I live alone and this wheelchair will offer me freedom and safety to take care of myself as often standing is quite difficult and makes cooking and cleaning virtually impossible. The process to get the chair was started in July and it is finally ready, and I have to pay a co-pay to be able to get it.
This last month has been extremely difficult as Covid finally caught up with me followed by an aggressive stomach bug, which made it nearly impossible to do the freelance work that pays my bills, putting me an entire month behind. As I struggle to catch up, I cannot currently pay rent and am facing possible eviction as well as the cost of the wheelchair copay on top of that. I cannot overstate the improvement in quality of life this chair would bring me, making it possible to go out in the world and teach, produce art, increase my productivity, find meaningful work, and sustain my life.
Any contribution, big or small, or even sharing this fundraiser in your communities, would be so helpful to get through this time and be in a position to prosper.
It can be so hard to ask for help, especially in this independent-minded society, but I truly believe in community support and mutual aid and look forward to paying it forward as soon as I am in the position to do so.
Thanks so much!
