Hello!
I’d like to bring your attention to a friend of mine and ask if you’d consider joining me in supporting her.
Maria is a former neighbour of mine from Sandy Hill in Ottawa. She is outgoing and kind, and we became friends as I passed by her on my way to class at the University of Ottawa. While I lived in the area I would stop by to visit her we’ve kept in contact over the past few years.
Maria is in a wheelchair and is currently living on the second story of a building with no elevator. Getting in and out of her apartment is exceptionally difficult and painful for her. She often has to wait for hours at the bottom of a flight of stairs for someone to come by and assist her up. She has been waiting for years to get a spot in an accessible building and recently was notified that one is available.
Maria has a tight budget and is exceptionally worried about the logistics of the move. She does not have the funds to cover any extra expenses right now. She has been in the hospital for the past 8 months and so has not been able to start packing early. She needs to move by the end of August, and there is a possibility she will lose her spot if she doesn't get the move organized in time.
She has recently reached out to me to ask for support. We’ve decided together that the best option will be to hire a Professional Organizer to assist her as she has a large volume of items to sort and is on a tight timeline. We’re hoping to engage the Organizer for a few weeks before and after the move to help her pack up the old place and set up the new. Josh and I are going to need some help to cover the whole cost. We’d love it if you would consider pitching in! I know that this new apartment will be a life-changing development for Maria, and I am so grateful there is finally a window for us to provide service to her that will significantly better her life.
We are looking to raise about $5,000. Part of these funds will cover the costs of the organizer, some to engage movers, and some to pay for any other incidental costs associated with moving. If possible, we’d also like to cover a bit of the cost of her first month’s rent so she can have less anxiety as she’s settling into a new place. We're hoping to have all funds collected by the end of September.
