Hello, my name is Maria Achique Poche and I am from Colombia. I arrived in the United States in April 2023, spent two weeks in immigration detention in Texas, and then was granted humanitarian parole and came to Denver in May 2023 with my 1-year-old son and my son's father. However, unfortunately my son and I experienced domestic violence on the part of my son’s father, and I have had to separate from him and seek protection. I now find myself alone here in Colorado with my son, and I am going through a very complicated and difficult time.

The reason I left Colombia is because my family and I were displaced by natural disasters like floods in the region I am from. Due to this displacement, the only option I saw was to leave the country to be able to get ahead and provide stability for my 8-year-old daughter (who stayed in a different part of Colombia with her aunt) and my son. My dream is eventually to bring my daughter to the United States so that the three of us can be together here.

At the moment, I am in the process of applying for asylum, and I am trying to find a good job so I can be financially stable enough to send for my daughter. However, I find myself in a very complicated situation, because so far in the U.S. I have not been able to get a good job to provide stability for my children. For this reason, I am writing to you to request your financial support to help me rent an apartment and live in a safe, stable place. Any help you can provide me would be a great help. Hola, mi nombre es María Achique Poche y soy de Colombia. Llegué a los Estados Unidos en abril de 2023, pasé dos semanas en un centro de detención de inmigrantes en Texas, y luego me permitieron entrar al interior del país con permiso humanitario. Vine a Denver en mayo de 2023 con mi hijo de 1 año y el padre de mi hijo. Sin embargo, lamentablemente mi hijo y yo sufrimos violencia doméstica por parte del padre de mi hijo y he tenido que separarme de él y buscar protección. Ahora me encuentro sola aquí en Colorado con mi hijo y estoy pasando por un momento muy complicado y difícil.

El motivo de por qué salí de Colombia es porque mi familia y yo fuimos desplazados por desastres naturales como inundaciones en la región de donde soy. Debido a este desplazamiento, la única opción que vi fue salir del país para poder salir adelante y darle estabilidad a mi hija de 8 años (que se quedó en otra parte de Colombia con su tía) y a mi hijo. Mi sueño es eventualmente traer a mi hija a los Estados Unidos para que podamos estar los tres juntos aquí.

En este momento, estoy en el proceso de solicitar asilo y estoy tratando de encontrar un buen trabajo para poder tener estabilidad financiera y para que mi hija viniera. Sin embargo, me encuentro en una situación muy complicada, porque hasta ahora en Estados Unidos no he podido conseguir un buen trabajo que les dé estabilidad a mis hijos. Por esta razón le escribo para solicitar su apoyo económico para ayudarme a alquilar un apartamento y vivir en un lugar seguro y estable. Cualquier ayuda que me puedan brindar sería de gran ayuda.
