Hello, my name is Ana, and today I’m asking for help for my mom.

This year has been especially difficult for our family. My mom was recently diagnosed with brain metastasis from small cell lung carcinoma. She has been fighting this cancer since 2003, when I was only 7 years old. After many setbacks and recoveries, her last major battle was in 2011. For many years, she kept going—strong, active, and very much herself—until just two weeks ago.

That’s when she suddenly lost her ability to move, speak clearly, and eat on her own. From that moment on, her life—and ours—changed completely. She can no longer move the right side of her body, has cognitive impairment, struggles to communicate, and is now fully dependent on others for eating, using the bathroom, and all basic daily activities.

Earlier this year, we had to stop paying for her health insurance because it cost nearly $300,000 pesos (15,000 USD) per year. We never imagined that months later we would be facing this diagnosis. She now urgently needs specialized medical care, 24/7 nursing, and oncology treatment, including radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and possibly surgery. We still don’t have final estimates, but we know these costs will exceed $500,000 pesos (25,000 USD).

On December 15, 2025, our family gathered to say goodbye to her, with completely broken hearts. We truly thought that moment would be the end. But my mom is stubborn and strong. Over the past 10 days, she has shown meaningful progress that has given us hope. Even so, the road ahead is long, and her medical and care needs remain significant—and right now, we don’t have the resources to cover them on our own.

My mom is creative, hardworking, hyperactive, and incredibly social. Sometimes a little reckless, but always with a huge heart. Her “flock”—her daughter, son, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, and three grandchildren—need her with us for much longer. We lost my dad in 2021, and we are not ready to say goodbye to her too.

Our goal is to raise $500,000 pesos (25,000 USD) per year to help cover her medical care, full-time nursing, medications, and therapies. Any donation, no matter the amount, truly helps us give her the care she needs and deserves. Sharing this campaign is also an incredibly meaningful way to support us.

Hola, mi nombre es Ana y hoy quiero pedir ayuda para mi mamá.

Este año ha sido especialmente difícil para nuestra familia. A mi mamá le diagnosticaron recientemente metástasis cerebral de carcinoma de células pequeñas de pulmón. Ella ha estado luchando contra este cáncer desde 2003, cuando yo tenía apenas 7 años. Después de muchas recaídas y recuperaciones, su última gran batalla fue en 2011. Durante muchos años logró seguir adelante —fuerte, activa y siendo ella misma— hasta hace apenas dos semanas.

Fue entonces cuando perdió de forma repentina la capacidad de moverse, hablar con claridad y alimentarse por sí sola. A partir de ese momento, su vida —y la nuestra— cambió por completo. Actualmente no puede mover el lado derecho del cuerpo, tiene daño cognitivo, dificultades para comunicarse y depende totalmente de otras personas para comer, ir al baño y realizar cualquier actividad básica.

A principios de este año tuvimos que dejar de pagar su seguro médico porque costaba cerca de $300,000 pesos anuales. Nunca imaginamos que meses después enfrentaríamos este diagnóstico. Hoy necesita cuidados médicos especializados, enfermería 24/7, y tratamiento oncológico urgente: radioterapia, quimioterapia y posiblemente cirugía. Aún no tenemos las cotizaciones finales, pero sabemos que los costos superarán los $500,000 pesos.

El 15 de diciembre de 2025 nos despedimos de ella en familia, con el corazón completamente roto. Pensamos sinceramente que ese momento sería el final. Pero mi mamá es terca y fuerte; en los últimos 10 días ha mostrado avances que nos devuelven esperanza. Aun así, el camino por delante es largo y sus necesidades médicas y de cuidado siguen siendo muy grandes, y hoy no contamos con los recursos suficientes para cubrirlas.

Mi mamá es creativa, trabajadora, hiperactiva y muy amiguera. A veces un poco imprudente, pero siempre con un corazón enorme. Su “rebaño” —su hija, su hijo, su nuera, su yerno y sus tres nietos— la necesitamos con nosotros por mucho más tiempo. En 2021 perdimos a mi papá y no estamos listos para despedirnos de ella también.

Nuestro objetivo es recaudar $500,000 pesos al año para cubrir parte de sus cuidados médicos, enfermería permanente, medicamentos y terapias. Cualquier donación, por pequeña que sea, nos ayuda a darle la atención que necesita y merece. Compartir esta campaña también es una forma enorme de ayudar.
