As many of you know, Lucas McDonald has been battling cancer for a few months. While the initial round of chemo seemed to be working, his non-Hodgkin lymphoma (stage 4) is no longer responding and they are planning on stopping treatment.
Currently, however, he is in the process of getting approved for CAR-T cell therapy which will involve Lucas, Jen and Emmett to relocate to Seattle for around five weeks for treatment and close observation. CAR-T cell therapy requires a 24/7 caretaker for a month following a week of inpatient observation after the treatment. Prior to going to Seattle, Lucas will be doing “bridge therapy” which are various non-chemo drugs to hopefully keep the lymphoma in check while the CAR-T treatment is prepared.
We are raising funds to help alleviate the financial burden while Lucas and Jen navigate the months ahead. The funds raised will help cover relocating to Seattle, room and board, and covering their unemployment while undergoing therapy.
The good news is that Lucas’ Von Willebrand disease, as well as his paraneoplastic transverse myelitis are resolved as of now. A success in a line of many to come!
This is an undeniably scary endeavor; one no family should ever have to endure. All of us who know Lucas, Jen and Emmett know the warmth and compassion they share for their friends and family. The only thing they need to be focused on at this moment is a successful recovery and living a long life cancer-free. Please help by giving whatever you can and sharing this fundraiser with anyone you know.
