Help Louis: Emergency Surgery for ESA Companion
Donation protected
Hi,
On Friday, October 11th, Louis (pronounced Louie), my standard poodle and ESA companion, started showing signs of sickness.
At first, we thought it was just a bit of tummy trouble, as he was trying to vomit and was unable to. I decided to keep him under observation.
He began to deteriorate quickly in the next 30 minutes. Pacing, couldn't vomit, showing clear signs of pain and distress. He abdomen became distended and hard as rock.
I immediately called my vet because I knew we had to get him seen as fast as possible. The wonderful vet cleared the way to an emergency vet with a surgeon on call.
We got there and the vet confirmed that he had GDV: gastric dilatation and volvulus. My worst fears were confirmed. Luckily, we made it to the vet hospital in time.
I had to make a tough decision, but in the end, there really was no decision. This is my baby boy, the boy who saved my life when I had a severe SI attack - the worst experience I've ever had. The boy who is so in tune with me, that he knows I'm having panic and in distress, even when he is outside and I'm in the office. The boy who knows how to make me laugh.
How could I not save my baby boy? I honestly don't think I could survive without him.
His surgery alone ended up being over $10,000, with meds and other stuff, it's almost $12,000.
There can never be a good time for anything like this to happen. Unfortunately, this has come where I myself am recovering from illness and disability. I'm just now returning to work.
Ironically, I was just looking into pet insurance :(.
If you can spare a bit to help, Louis and I would greatly appreciate you.
With love,
Lisa and Louis
