Help Lifetime Peace Activist Stay in his Home

Donation protected
Bradford Lyttle, 92, has lived in his Chicago home since 1943, and presently his main goal is to stay there. For Brad, the location is ideal: a few minutes' walk from The University of Chicago, which he attended as a graduate student, and where Henry Moore’s Nuclear Energy statue provides a focal point for his activist work promoting a message of pacifism and peace.  Over the years the house has served as Brad's primary work base as well as a meeting space for activists, writers, and intellectuals.  With his eyesight diminishing due to Macular Degeneration, the home’s familiarity, accessibility, and proximity to his church and network of friends are increasingly vital to Brad’s wellbeing. Brad still actively engages in his activist work, but in recent years his attention has been largely occupied by the task to remain in his longtime home. Having devoted his life to the peace movement, Brad privileged his principles over monetary gain, and as a result is struggling to cover the various expenses required to maintain the house. As Brad's neighbour and friend, I suggested the creation of this page to help him raise funds to help him in his efforts.  The $10,000 goal will eliminate the property tax debt from 2019, as well as contribute towards projects such as chimney repairs, removals, and painting.  Any donation will be of great benefit and is very much appreciated by Brad and all of those who care about him. Brad’s mission in life has been to aid in the building of a world of non-violence and peace. As a political organizer, he led demonstrations both small and large in support of these ideals. Some of his major accomplishments include co-organizing Anti-Vietnam war rallies in NYC and DC that gathered up to 500,000 people, his protests against Polaris Submarines that gained worldwide attention and spread to Scotland and Australia, walks for peace stretching such tremendous distances as from San Francisco to Moscow, and involvement in integrated protests through the Southern US in the 1960s. Despite being arrested over 20 times, Brad has shown an unerring commitment to the construction of a more just and kind world. Now, we have an opportunity to return that generosity by helping Brad continue his life and work in his beloved home.
