Help produce "Annie" our 5th grade play!

My name is Laura Curley Pendergast. For the last two years I have been the producer and director of the GFS school play in Westport, CT.  While the school was not able to host this production in their building due to the pandemic restrictions, I am in the position to facilitate this production through my musical theater academy, TheaterCamp4KidsBroadwayAcademy.com. In coordination with GFS, downtown Westport and the generous donation by David Waldman of space in Bedford Square, we are able to continue on our annual school production of "Annie Jr!"

Unfortunately, we had very bad luck last year with an online ticketing company. The company failed to pay us our approximately $9,600.00 that we made in ticket sales. This money was meant to produce this year's play of "Annie Jr." Our 5th graders, who have been diligently working in the ensemble two years in a row,  now have their chance to be the "stars".  Due to this circumstance with the ticketing company, we are finding it difficult to cover the costs.  I am hoping to raise $13, 050 in order to produce the play and keep the tuition for 3 months of rehearsals and the show down to only $205.00 per child. This will ensure that everyone can participate! We also give financial aid to anyone who can not afford the tuition. NO child will miss this opportunity because of financial issues.

Our budget includes:

$3,400 for the sound (microphones and renting equipment to be outside)
$1,000 to build a stage outside
$2000 to rent bleachers
$1,500 choreographers
$1,500 Musical director
$1,500 Stage Manager fees
$2,500 producer fees
$1,500 paid Staples players senior interns
$350.00 Middle School Interns
$500.00 costumes
$1,000 paid to public school teachers and adults to keep kids safe during rehearsals and help them get homework done if they are not rehearsing.

This cost of the play is higher than we are asking in the GOFUNDME but we are hoping for ticket sales to cover the rest!

TheaterCamp4Kidsbroadwayacademy.com along with GFS school is trying to give the kids the same experience that the public school was able to give the students last year and the year before.  Because the space is not a traditional theater, we need to rent sound equipment and microphones so the children can be heard. Also, we need to rent bleachers so the audience in the back can see! The young actors have been rehearsing in the outdoor space since March when it was still freezing out. If it rained, we went into the porch at their school but it was still really cold and wet and they never complained! In fact, they made it a lot of fun.  The heartwarming story of "Annie Jr." with it's message of true grit and hope is just what we need to end a tough school year! Westport has always been a supporter of the performing arts!  Being in a play with ones peers learning to overcome fear, work as a team, stay in shape dancing every day, building confidence by getting in front of an audience after one has learned a role and can perform it in front of others is huge! Coming off that final show knowing what the accomplished is huge for the kids!

The play is Friday, June 4th at 6:30 Saturday June 5th at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. and and June 6th in downtown Westport! Any financial help you can give us to get this play going and give our hardworking worthy students the opportunity to shine now that they are in 5th grade would be greatly appreciated. To get tickets! [email redacted]
