Help launch a skateboarding and art after-school program

Hello, we are Justin and Marika Lind. Please help us launch Skate & Create, a skateboarding and art-based after-school program in Ventura, CA.

Skate & Create aims to bring more autonomy, risky play, and creative expression back to childhood and education. Skateboarding and art are the best tools that we've found to build resilient, self-reliant, and confident kids.

Skate & Create is a mobile, modular skatepark and art studio that meets kids right at their school campus. Each day they can work together to construct a unique skate environment. We'll provide skateboards and safety gear to those who don't have their own and all of the art and building supplies for our various creative projects. In addition to learning new skate tricks, kids will also have the chance to create their own custom skateboard decks and t-shirts and build and paint our ramps. Each campus will paint a unique mural to be displayed on our equipment trailer, so that they will see their art driving around town!

We already have an enthusiastic agreement to launch Skate & Create with Ventura Unified School District at the start of the 24-25 school year. We also have a gracious donation of skateboards from a local skateboard company. Your donation will help us be fully equipped for our launch in August 2024. Our primary expenses are: an equipment trailer, building supplies for our ramps, helmets and other safety gear.

Skate & Create is a culmination of our shared skills and passion. Justin is a skateboarder of 30 years and currently works as an engineer and designer for a skateboard manufacturer. Marika is a lifelong artist and works in the illustration and animation industry. We each have over a decade of experience teaching and coaching kids. Skate & Create is part of our vision to improve education and child development.
