Help Kristine Fight Stage 4 Cancer: A Nurse,A Wife,A Mother

Dear Community,

We are reaching out to you with heavy hearts and a plea for support on behalf of our dear friend, Kristine “Tine” Paragas. At 38 years old, Tine recently received a challenging diagnosis of stage 4 rectal cancer that has spread to her liver.

Kristine holds a special place in our hearts, not only as a valued colleague but also as a compassionate nurse in Caulfield Hospital, a beloved wife of Garri Paragas who works as an Assistant in Nursing at the same hospital and a first-time mother to a beautiful 7-month-old baby named Althea.

What makes this situation particularly heartrending is that Kristine and Garri have spent their careers caring for various cohort of patients, including those battling cancer. They have provided compassionate care, support, and comfort to countless individuals and families facing similar challenges. Now, it is heartbreaking to see them on the other side of the equation, fighting this relentless disease themselves.

As a couple dedicated to caring for others, they have touched the lives of many within our community. Their dedication to their work and family is truly inspiring, and now, as they face this difficult battle against cancer, it's more important than ever for us to come together and support them in every way we can.

Kristine is not only battling cancer but also navigating the complexities of her situation as a temporary resident on a working visa, which means they will mostly pay for their medical expenses out of pocket. As a result of Tine’s current condition, the possibility of her and her husband receiving permanent residency is now highly unlikely. Adding to the weight of her struggle, Kristine's mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, completing chemotherapy. Kristine shoulders the financial responsibility for her mother's treatments alongside her own medical bills. As you can imagine, the financial strain of battling cancer while supporting a young family is incredibly daunting.

Despite these challenges, Kristine continues to show unwavering strength and determination. But she can't face this alone. Your support can provide vital resources for Kristine's medical costs such as initial fortnightly chemotherapy sessions, imaging and blood tests, house rent and other essential expenses.
