English version
I am reaching out to you after a devastating fire swept trough the beautiful resort of my sister Jose and her husband Maarten on Zanzibar. The fire has largely burned down the restaurant, technical area and their own house. In order to rebuild the resort, a lot of time, effort and money is needed. They can really use every support they can get from you.
In July 2019, Jose Laroy and Maarten Verheij left for Zanzibar with their children Mats and Fee to realise their dream: to build their own resort on a piece of unexplored land. They have poured their hearts and souls into creating this place and over the course of 2.5 years Kijani Beach was realized. A little paradise on earth from which guests can discover Zanzibar.
In addition to being a wonderful place to stay, it also offers employment in the village of Bwejuu. There are more than 40 staff in permanent employment who depend on the resort. Sustainability in their business is of paramount importance to Kijani. For example, a partnership is forged with local NGO for their waste management. One of Zanzibar's biggest challenges right now.
Recently, their dream has largely gone up in flames in one night. A fire that started at the neighbors spread over to Kijani's restaurant and within 1.5 hours the entire restaurant, the technical area and their own house were completely devestated. Fortunately, nobody was injuries or worse but the damage is huge. Their lives are completely upside down and they have lost all their personal belongings.

The vast distance between home and my family then makes you feel powerless. The insurance does not fully cover the damage and the question is whether and when the payment will come. In order to be able to do something now, I am launching this campaign to raise funds to help Jose and Maarten recover from this tragedy.
Your donation will be used to restore water supply and electricity as quickly as possible. Furthermore emergency facilities will be build to allow the resort to partially run again to generate revenue. After that the
project of rebuilding the restaurant, workshop and staff housing will start.
Together, with the resilience of Jose and Maarten, support from all staff and the local community, it is possible to help Kijani Beach rise from the ashes and continue to be a place of joy and relaxation for many years to come. Will you help me?
Any amount, large or small is of tremendous support. Through this page, your donation will safely end up with Jose and Maarten. The team members of this crowdfunding are available for questions and information. Forwarding this action will also help enormously. Thank you very much in advance!
