Hi, my name is Kiaya.
I am raising funds to help me relocate for safety and stability while supporting my brother as he recovers from a recent domestic violence situation.
This is not an isolated incident, but part of a long history of family violence that my siblings and I have lived through for many years. There is a great deal of complicated backstory and complex family dynamics involved, and while I cannot share every detail publicly, this has been a deeply serious and life-altering situation for all of us.
Recently, the situation escalated. My brother experienced a life-threatening assault and is now recovering from his injuries while working toward stability. Because of this, he is currently staying with me, along with his dog and cat, after losing housing and employment due to the abuse.
I have filed protective orders to protect myself and my family as we take steps toward safety.
My family has struggled financially for as long as I can remember, but recent events have made it difficult to provide even basic necessities. While our extended family members have been helping when they can, they are not able to support us in the ways they wish they could.
I also live with a chronic illness that severely affects my daily life and requires ongoing medical care. Navigating the medical system and pursuing long-term treatment has added another layer of financial and emotional strain during an already difficult time.
I work full-time and am doing everything I can to maintain a safe environment for myself and my siblings; but the combined weight of household expenses, medical bills, car repairs and transportation costs, legal needs, pet care, and supporting my brother makes it difficult to save quickly enough for relocation.
For safety reasons, I am not sharing details about where we are moving, but this relocation is necessary for our well-being and long-term healing.
Funds raised will go toward:
- Safe housing and moving costs
- Medical expenses
- Legal and court-related costs
- Car repairs and transportation
- Basic necessities and emergency savings during this transition
My initial goal is $5,000 to help us take the first steps toward safety. Any support beyond that will go directly toward long-term housing stability and recovery.
I don’t like asking for help, but I have exhausted every other avenue and still have a long road ahead. This has been a dark and difficult chapter for my siblings and me, and we are trying to build something safer and more stable moving forward.
Anything you can give — donating, sharing, or offering encouragement — truly means more than I can express.
Thank you for taking the time to read part of my story and for supporting our path toward safety and healing.
— Kiaya
