Help Us Build a Community Mutual Aid Fridge

KCAI Student Solidarity Network is fundraising to build a solar powered Mutual Aid Fridge in collaboration with the community led Walnut People's Garden to provide free produce & other food to our neighbors in Southmoreland!
Southmoreland is a mixed income neighborhood with lots of folks who could benefit from a mutual aid refrigerator. We have already tested out our plan with a FREE STAND for produce, canned goods, and other items at the Walnut People's Garden, and it has been a major help to many of our neighbors, housed & unhoused. This Mutual Aid Refrigerator would be a much needed upgrade, especially once we get closer to summer.
Previously, Student Solidarity Network proposed our plan to the KCAI Student Guild for funding, and that proposal passed unanimously among students!
Unfortunately, KCAI Administration has vetoed our proposal.
IN RESPONSE: Student Solidarity Network has decided to team up with The Walnut People's Garden to create a freestanding **SOLAR POWERED MUTUAL AID FRIDGE** that is completely autonomous & does not depend on electricity from any institution!
All we need is your financial contribution, so that we can create a sustainable support system to provide free food in our neighborhood. If we all pitch in $5, we can create something meaningful together during these difficult times.
The supplies we need to purchase:
-Refrigerator
-Wood (to build a small shelter for the fridge)
-(2) 250 W Solar Panels
- (2) 90 ah Batteries
-Power Inverter, Charge Controller, Circuit Breakers, Cables
-Colorful Anti-Rust Paint
-Anti-Theft Ground Anchors
-Magnets + Flyers
If any money is leftover after purchasing all the necessary items, it will be spent on more food for the refrigerator.
