Help Judy Recover From Cancer Treatment
Donation protected
Judy is a Minnesota native and the loving mother of three children She lives with her husband, Tom, eldest son, Bryan, and their tuxedo cat, Boomer. In her free time she enjoys applying her artistic eye to redecorate her home, make flower arrangements, and refinish furniture to be sold at local consignment stores.
In the middle of July, while transporting furniture to a consignment store, Judy experienced a minor stroke and fainted. Tom took Judy to the hospital where she received care for her symptoms; loss of feeling to parts of her face and body, slurred speech. After two days in the hospital, she went home to continue recovering and resume daily life.
During a follow-up visit for her stroke, cancerous nodules were discovered on her lymph nodes. The news left our family in a complete state of shock. In the months that followed, Judy and her doctor discussed options moving forward, where they selected a surgeon to remove her parathyroid glands and lymph nodes.
On Monday, November 20th, Judy underwent her parathyroidectomy. After powering through the operation, she had to then endure complications like pneumonia, which led to painful breathing. Reporting this pain to the nurses, they elected to drain excess fluid discovered around her lungs. The arduous surgery complications resulted in an extended hospital stay, for a total of six days until she was discharged on Sunday, November 26th.
Judy is home now under the watchful care of Tom and Bryan, and Boomer. She will be visiting her doctor and surgeon in the coming weeks and months for additional scans and to begin radioiodine therapy. Medical bills pile up from the event of the stroke, the surgery, extended hospital stay, and into future treatment. Our family is pulling together what we can to cover medical expenses, but they are becoming unmanageable. We are extremely grateful for any financial help provided to us, so we may heal from this experience.
