Help Jocelyn Provide Essential Vet Services
Donation protected
My name is Jocelyn and I have been a veterinarian for 20 years. I will be traveling to the Hopi Native American reservation in Arizona at the end of October to spay and neuter the dogs and cats of the reservation. I can go a second time this year due to the generous donations from many people in the spring. On the first trip, we spayed and neutered about 150 animals, rehomed 11 dogs, and treated the Cultural Center dog pack with Bravecto to prevent mange, ticks, and fleas. Ehrlichiosis, a tick-borne disease, and mange are very big problems out there.
Native American Veterinary Services (NAVS) organizes these trips twice a year. Their goal is to provide veterinary care to non-gaming reservations and to teach 3-4 University of Pennsylvania veterinary students (NAVS founder was a UPenn grad). I absolutely loved teaching the students in April.
My request for donations is for the following:
Lodging at the Cultural Center $700
Lodging at KOA cabins on the way out there and back (it is a four-hour drive to the reservation from Phoenix). $200
Food. $300
Truck rental $700
Gas. $200
Bravecto to give to unowned dogs $200
Total = $2200
As an added bonus, I will be bringing one of my best friends from college and vet school with me. She is transitioning from the large animal world to small animal. She also needs to take a trip with purpose to rekindle her love of veterinary medicine. Luckily, we both had airline points so it doesn't really cost anything extra (except food) to bring her along.
Thank you so much for supporting me and my desire to bring veterinary care to places that have little to none of it.
