Help Jim Haggerty Get Back on the Road
If you live in the Boston music scene, chances are you know Jim Haggerty — and if you know Jim, you know he’s the first person to show up when someone else is in need. Over the past 35+ years, Jim has been a bedrock of our artistic community: a first-call bass player, a mentor, a bandmate, a tireless organizer, and a true friend to musicians across New England.
When someone falls ill, loses work, or faces a crisis, Jim doesn’t just talk about community — he shows up. He’s played, organized, or quietly supported more benefit shows than anyone could count. He’s offered time, gear, money, and more than once, quite literally, the shirt off his back.
Now it’s our turn to show up for him.
Jim’s car recently died — completely and irreparably. For most of us, that would be an inconvenience. For Jim, it’s a major threat to his livelihood. He works gig to gig, studio to studio, sometimes three or four different locations in a day. Public transportation doesn’t cut it when your job is hauling gear across Greater Boston at all hours. Without a reliable car, Jim simply can’t do what he does for himself or the rest of us.
Jim would never ask for help like this himself. He’s too proud, too modest, and frankly, too busy helping everyone else. So we’re asking on his behalf.
Every dollar raised will go toward helping Jim purchase a reliable used vehicle, so he can continue working and supporting the people and scene he loves. He’s not looking for luxury — just something solid and safe that can handle the miles.
Let’s give a little back to someone who’s given so much. Jim has spent a lifetime lifting others up — let’s return the favor.
