Help Jackie Preserve Her Fertility!

Hello! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Jackie and I’m currently a UC Berkeley student. Over the past couple of years, I’ve been able to discover more and more about myself and my gender identity. Within the past year, I’ve come out as trans to many friends and loved ones and have received such love and support. For myself, I’ve finally come to a point where I’m ready to undergo HRT and finally start my life. In preparation for this, I’ve been trying to save money to freeze my sperm. For people who are AMAB who undergo HRT, estrogen affects your fertility levels and ultimately impacts your ability to produce sperm. When I had learned this, I started saving my money so that I could preserve my fertility and ensure that one day I may be able to have kids.

However, over the course of the last four months, life has really fucking hit me hard. I lost partial vision in my left eye but it was thankfully regained. In the process of determining a diagnosis, I racked up almost $1000 in medical expenses. On top of this, I underwent various dental treatments to maintain my dental health which also racked up $1000 in medical expenses (and counting). Lastly, about a month ago a car rear ended mine and totaled it. The claim that I filed ultimately won’t provide enough money to fully repair my car which I’ve relied on to visit family and friends, go to work, and commute to school occasionally. These events have completely depleted my savings. I had planned to start HRT next month and finally be able to start living my life but the aforementioned events kinda put a wrench in everything.

So, I have resulted in creating this! The funds for this page are directly going to preserve my fertility. I have contacted a clinic and have received word that it will cost approximately $2400 to freeze my sperm and store it for one year. Once I’m on my feet again, I will be able to make the yearly payments for storage but at the moment I need assistance with the preliminary costs. My first resort was to see if insurance would cover this but unfortunately my insurance plan doesn’t cover sperm preservation. I know many people have their own trials and tribulations going on and if you don’t feel like you are able to donate, that is completely fine! If you can share this with friends and loved ones that are comfortable supporting, that is great as well. If there is any excess money that is donated past the $2400 goal, I’ll donate it or find a way to return the money to people who donated. Thank you for your time and thank you for your support :D
