My nephew, Igor Gueiros Barbosa, is a 33-year-old young man who has been courageously fighting cancer since he was just 21. Over the years, Igor has endured multiple surgeries, always focused on his lower limbs. Despite everything, he has continued to face life with strength, resilience, and hope. In September of last year, his battle took a devastating turn when he was forced to undergo the amputation of one of his legs. Just as he was preparing to move forward with a prosthetic and rebuild his independence, we received heartbreaking news: the cancer has spread again. Last month, doctors discovered tumors in both of his lungs, and now Igor urgently needs surgery on both lungs.
Unfortunately, the Brazilian public healthcare system does not cover the specialized procedure recommended by his doctors, which means this life-saving surgery must be paid for privately. Our family has already exhausted all available resources, and the cost is far beyond what we can manage alone. Time is critical, as the cancer continues to spread. Igor is a hardworking, kind, and determined young man with many dreams. Like so many Brazilian boys, he dreamed of becoming a soccer player. Later, he enlisted in the Air Force with hopes of becoming a pilot. One by one, these dreams were taken from him—not due to a lack of effort or ambition, but because of this relentless illness.
We have already started collecting among the family and have sent what we can, but it’s not enough. I will be withdrawing the funds here in the US and sending them directly to Igor’s bank account in Brazil via wire transfer, so he can access the treatment he needs as soon as possible. Today, our focus is simple and urgent: to give Igor the chance to continue living. The sooner this surgery happens, the better his chances. We humbly ask for your support. Any donation—no matter how small—brings us closer to covering the cost of this surgery. If you are unable to donate, no worries at all. We also ask for your prayers and for you to share this page. Your prayers and sharing mean just as much to us as a donation. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, compassion, and support during this incredibly difficult time.
