Help HIV-survivor Venezuelan Babies

As many of you know, Venezuela is currently facing its most difficult humanitarian crisis in modern time. Unfortunately, the people of this country now have limited access to food, medications and other basic human needs.
Over the past several months, I have witnessed many images on social media of starving children, which have made me think: "This could be my own son". As a Venezuelan mother, living in Connecticut, I can only imagine the desperation another parent feels when hearing a child cry of hunger and not be able to comfort them with nutritious food simply because grocery stores shelves are empty or they can’t afford the tremendous cost inflation of basic staple foods. Some children are only having one nutritious meal a day and in other severe cases only a few times a week and this includes babies. <--click to see a recent article from the NY Times
For weeks I have felt the urge to do something about this, even if it only represents a small percentage of what still needs to be done in Venezuela. ***UPDATE: as of June 2018, more than 200 large formula cans from costo and more than 50 smaller formula sample cans have been shipped to Venezuela with the help of this campaing!***
The Plan
To help fight hunger at the earliest stages, I contacted a Professor in my undergraduate school Dr. Cecilia Bernardoni, who founded a non-profit organization called Fundacion Innocens (1994), that is based at the University Hospital in my home city Maracaibo, Venezuela. This foundation helps save babies from HIV-positive mothers. These babies must be fed with baby formula to avoid viral infection through breastfeeding but unfortunately, milk is one of the products with the highest shortages in Venezuela and parents often end up substituting newborn milk for rice-water or plantain-water due to lack of resources. Let's work together to reduce the number of malnourished children growing up in Venezuela by donating to this fund. The collected money will be used to send baby formula to Fundacion Innocens, which will be purchased in the US and shipped directly to Fundacion Innocens through a third party company in Florida (rudyexport.com ), which will donate the international shipping cost.
A small can of baby formula in Venezuela costs about Bs90,000 (~40% of a monthly salary) and one baby needs from 8-15 cans/month from birth to 6-months of age.
Every $70 collected will provide milk for one baby for a month; they currently need baby formula to support over 80 babies in their program. Every dollar counts!
***Update: June 2018: fundacion Innocens has asked me for help with diaper for their babies. Therefore some of the money collected will also be used to send diapers.
How funds will be managed
Because Fundacion Innocens does not have a foreign bank account and cannot receive funds directly in Venezuela, money collected will be transferred to my bank account and I will be responsible for purchasing the baby formula and sending it to the exporting company in Miami, for it to be delivered directly at the doors of Fundacion Innocens in Maracaibo, Venezuela. I will be showing pictures at every step possible during the process.

Como muchos saben, Venezuela está pasando por la crisis humanitaria más difícil de los últimos tiempos. Desafortunadamente, el pueblo venezolano ahora tiene acceso limitado a comida, medicinas y otras necesidades básicas del ser humano.
En los últimos meses he visto muchas imágenes de niños desnutridos en redes sociales que me han hecho pensar “éste pudo haber sido mi propio hijo”. Como madre venezolana, ahora viviendo en Connecticut (EU), puedo imaginarme la desesperación que otro padre siente al escuchar a su hijo llorar por hambre y no poder ofrecerle nada para alimentarlo por el simple hecho que los estantes de los supermercados están vacíos o por no poder pagar el alto costo de la comida provocado por la tremenda inflación. Algunos niños solo comen una vez al día y en otros casos más severos unas pocas veces por semana y esto incluye a bebés. <--click para leer articulo reciente en New York Times
Por varias semanas he sentido la necesidad de hacer algo al respecto, así represente sólo un pequeño porcentaje de lo que necesita hacerse en Venezuela.
***Actualización: para Junio de 2018, se han enviado mas de 200 envases grandes con fomula de costco y mas de 50 latas con muestras de leche de fórmula para bebés en Venezuela gracias a esta campaña!

Para ayudar a combatir el hambre en su más temprana edad, he contactado a una Profesora de mi Universidadde pre-grado: Dra. Cecilia Bernardoni, quien en 1994 fundó una organización sin fines de lucro llamada Fundación Innocens ubicada en el Hospital Universitario de mi ciudad natal Maracaibo, Venezuela. Esta fundación ayuda a salvar bebés de madres con el virus VIH. Estos bebés tienen que ser alimentados desde el nacimiento con leche maternizada (fórmula) para evitar contagiarse del virus al ser amamantados. Desafortunadamente, la leche es uno de los productos con mayor escasez en Venezuela y los padres muchas veces se ven obligados a darles agua de arroz o de plátano a sus bebés por no tener acceso a leche maternizada. Trabajemos juntos para reducir el número de niños creciendo con desnutrición en Venezuela apoyando y donando a este fondo. El dinero colectado será utilizado para enviar leche maternizada (fórmula) a Fundación Innocens, la cual será comprada en los Estados Unidos y enviada directamente a la fundación a través de la empresa Rudy Export en Miami, Fl, quién donará los costos de envío internacional.
Una lata pequeña de leche maternizada cuesta alrededor de Bs 90.000 (áprox. 40% de un salario mensual) y un bebé necesita entre 8-15 latas de leche al mes desde su nacimiento hasta los 6 meses de edad.
Cada $70 colectados ayudarán a aportar leche a un bebe para un mes. La fundación actualmente necesita leche para alimentar mas de 80 bebés en el programa. Cada dolar cuenta!
***Actualización, Junio de 2018: la fundación ha pedido ayuda con pañales para ayudar a sus niños, por lo que parte de las donaciones ahora serán también para enviar pañales además de leche.
Manejo de fondos
Debido a que la Fundación Innocens no tiene cuenta bancaria en el exterior y no puede recibir fondos de dinero directamente en Venezuela, los fondos colectados serán transferidos a mi cuenta bancaria y yo seré responsable de hacer la compra y pago de la leche maternizada en USA y envío a Rudy Export, para hacer llegar la leche maternizada directamente a las puertas de Fundación Innocens en Maracaibo, Venezuela. Estaré mostrando fotos de cada paso posible durante el proceso.
