Help Gina become an EMT in Colombia!

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Gina and being a healer is my calling.

I’ve felt happiness in music medicine, playing songs that instill joy, peace and unity. I’ve experienced kindness in humanity and freedom of dance expression.

While music has surely been my passion, I’ve felt a deeper yearning lately to pursue a different way to make a difference. Also searching for balance and meaning, I found myself with an urge to pivot in a healthy direction.

Diving deep into yoga, aromatherapy and CBD, I’ve made balms, tinctures and tonics for friends. Improving people’s quality of life, bringing comfort even for a brief moment.

In this quarantine and through a series of experiments (aka "trying different stuff”)  I discovered a few things:

      1.  New thirst for knowledge
      2.  Deep desire to help others

Lockdown has been a powerful time to listen and reflect what's inside my soul. I’ve seen sadness and pain in my community. Became aware of my own pain and hardships of reality and trauma.

What can I do to be more of service? How can I help? Meditation and soul searching for self love, the pandemic, recent injustice events and this movement for social change has inspired me to take more action.

What better time than the present-- while unemployed-- to dive deeper with my head and heart aligned to my calling to heal the world…  than by saving it this time.

Now I have the time, opportunity and desire to further my medical education. I'm pulling the trigger.

Craving medical knowledge and hands on experience has led me to find an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification in Medellin, Colombia. United Hatzalah Colombia  is a humanitarian organization that trains volunteers from all over the world to become first responders, stabilizing the patient before the ambulance arrives. After intense medical emergency training, I will be on the front lines as an emergency medical volunteer.

I would like to ask for your financial support to continue my journey.  Here is the cost breakdown:

Flight SD → Medellin → SD: $600

EMT Program: $1800

Meals. lodging and travel expenses ( 3-5 weeks): $600

Total : $3,000

Why an EMT?

When I was 15, I experienced deep emotional pain for the first time. What started off as a joy ride quickly became a car chase that ended up in a terrible accident. Barely knowing how to drive, my vehicle crashed into a house in Matamoros, Mexico. My best friend on the passenger's side hit her head and subsequently fell into a coma. When she awoke a week later, her motor skills were severely compromised. I was devastated.

My life also changed dramatically when my father passed away from a heart attack when I was 18. I’ll always remember feeling his body still warm on the floor of his office as he left his physical form. Felt my heart severely broken.

In both these painful instances, I’ve yearned to learn more about the body and how it works. Oftentimes I think if only I knew better, what more could I have done?

Volunteering as a member of the United Hatzalah  team will give me the opportunity to learn about emergency medicine and gain first-aid knowledge that can make the difference between life and death. The experience and training I'll receive will be invaluable to further my education in the medical field.

Also, becoming an EMT in Colombia is much faster than in the US, and far less expensive.  Now, more than ever I see these life skills as a necessity, no matter where we are in the world.

Lastly, I’m saddened and outraged by the level of injustice that is being allowed and witnessed in America. I've marched in solidarity with those that have stood up against brutality and racism in the recent weeks. I believe in equality and wish to create a world where safety, support, and freedom is felt by all marginalized communities.

Violence is not the answer. Only love will drive out hate. And action! Lots of action :)
