Help Fund Carver’s Camp Canoe Journey
Spende geschützt
We are the Carver’s Camp Canoe Family, an open, multi-racial chosen family that participates in both the annual Intertribal Canoe Journey across the PNW and the annual Gathering of the Eagles Canoe Journey.
We are raising funds for the upcoming Gathering of the Eagles (GOTE) journey coming up May 19th-26th. During the GOTE journey, we circumnavigate the San Juan Islands of the Salish Sea by canoe while being hosted by Lummi tribal leaders in their traditional territories, with the support of the San Juan island Communities. We are raising funds for food, provisions, a rental van to carry our camping gear, and ferry crossings for those traveling by land. Any leftover money will go to our participation in the Youth Paddle Canoe Journey to Puyallup later this year.
The Canoe Movement, is a cultural movement to reclaim the waterways and cultures of Indigenous peoples across the globe. Canoe Journeys are integral to this movement because they provide deeply lived experiences, ceremony, and intertribal and cross cultural relationships.
A little about us! Carver’s Camp canoe family was created by our elder Philip H Red Eagle back in 2003. We are called Carver’s Camp because our elders carved a canoe together and we continue to carve together today. Phil is both Coast Salish and Dakota, served in the Vietnam War, and lived through the criminalization of Indigenous gatherings, which is why cultural reclamation through the canoe movement has been so important to him for over 25 years. Carver’s Camp is one of the few open canoe families in the movement, open to anyone who is willing to put in the work, the heart, and lend themselves to the cause. Because of this, Carver’s Camp is home to many mixed Indigenous folks who don’t have their tribes nearby for support, and it’s home to several active and caring allies. Carver’s Camp is a powerful portal into a world where everyone works to uplift each other, and where Indigenous ways are centered and celebrated.
We welcome and appreciate your support so that we may continue to participate in these ceremonial events and journeys.
Thank you!
