I am humbly grateful to have had the awesome opportunities to serve and learn on many mission, ministry and vision trips over the years, and though I had the opportunity to go back to Kyrgyzstan or Guatemala, I wasn’t sensing that that was the right direction for me this year.
Turning 50 years old has compelled me to tread a new path - literally!
The Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain has been on my radar for about 15 years since watching the movie “The Way.” And after teaching Church History and Comparative Religions classes, my interest in pilgrimages have grown. The amazing thing is, because the Holy Spirit dwells in us and we are not saved by works, pilgrimages are not necessary for Christians, but a privilege, honor and opportunity to have a devoted retreat with the Lord and to engage with fellow pilgrims on spiritual matters. When I learned that my dear Trades of Hope friend, Veronica & her pastor-husband, Jeremiah, are leading a group to walk the Camino this fall (end of September to mid-October) that seemed to be the perfect opportunity for me to join in.
My heart for the nations and inviting as many people to heaven with me as possible has grown bigger each year, so I want this experience to be an opportunity to have conversations WITH JESUS (on my solitude days) and ABOUT JESUS (whoever He brings across my path.) Most pilgrims on the Camino are open to spiritual conversations and I want to learn their stories, ask good questions, and share peace and hope with them, should they desire it.
I would appreciate your prayers for the Holy Spirit’s guidance on who to connect with each day and how to love them well. I am also a little nervous about walking 12-16 miles everyday as I have a “trick knee” - so prayers appreciated for healing, good self-care, and God to sustain me. Finally, prayers are appreciated for provision in this financially tight season, as well as anything you feel led to pray for. Would you reach out and let me know if you feel called to be a prayer partner with me?
Regarding giving, the registration is $1200 and covers lodging in the albuergues (hostels), plus food costs, walking/backpack gear, and air travel will add up to at least $3000. I’m also hoping to connect with a couple of Biola friends who live in southern Spain after the trip. Here is the giving link: https://gofund.me/1955f879
Thank you for your prayers and any financial blessings you can generously give.
