Help heal LOVE (in so many ways)

Blackie and Patti and LOVE had just spent eight months in the islands off mainland Papua New Guinea, helping the local villagers with a myriad of tasks, among them digging new wells. They were there when the pandemic spread around the world, and their added task was educating the villagers about the virus, social distancing, the need to restrict travel to more populated areas, and, of course, handwashing. Eventually, the restrictions prevented them from doing more service work, and they set sail north, beginning to meander back to Hawai'i when disaster struck.

In the dark of night, a squall hit, knocking the 45-foot steel-hulled gaff-rigged ketch over so hard it shoved water up the exhaust and into the engine, freezing it. Another squall hit, snapping the tiller head weld. The staysail stay let go at the head, sails ripped. Calm in between squalls allowed for jury-rigging. Then the halyard block at top of the mast unshackled. Six trips up the mast, jury-rigging repairs. The next squall back-winds the mainsail, snapping the boom in three places. Jury rigging spinnaker pole as a boom and triple reefing the main, they struggle to make headway against 1-1/2 knot currents and light winds, pushing them towards reefs.

After floundering in light winds and stronger currents for 46 days they were able to SOS for help. A tug was sent out from Honiara, Solomon Islands, and towed them into safety -- and charged them $25,500!!! To tow them 106 miles!!! Like most sailors plying the South Pacific, Love is sailing on a shoestring, with enough money to buy supplies and pay mooring and visa fees. Love needs help!!!

Blackie is my ex and father of my children and a friend in dire need of help. So I ask you, fellow sailors, fellow travelers, armchair travelers, friends, family, people of the world, will you please donate and help as you can.  I recognize there are so many tragedies happening in the world -- the wildfires out here in the Northwest, the hurricanes and floods in the South, loss of businesses and health (and life) due to the pandemic -- but the Yacht Love is stranded with no ability to earn money and yet unable to leave without paying this exorbitant fee.

Give as you can, recognizing that what you give will come back to you, maybe not today or tomorrow, but Love cannot be diminished. That is the law of nature and the law of love. LOVE -- and Blackie and Patti -- are incredibly grateful for all that have helped so far.
