While we were on vacation visiting family in New York our pet sitter took our dog Ollie from our home in Aptos on a trip to Calaveras County without asking us. Along the way he disappeared from the car. We now know he jumped from the moving car in Farmington, outside Stockton. The sitter kept driving and left him on the side of the road with a broken leg and other injuries. We searched from Stockton to Arnold as well as across Tuolumne and Santa Cruz Counties.
Ollie somehow survived for over a week on his own sleeping in orchards and farmland with little water or food. He lost over 12 lbs in a week. We have him back home with us in Aptos after a frenzied search. Due to the severe nature of his injuries we are looking at upwards of $8,000 dollars in veterinary expenses. We have already spent over $2,000 on emergency plane fares, gas, hotels, a reward, and posting hundreds of flyers.
Any excess funds raised will directly go to benefit the rescue organizations and Humane Societies that were so supportive of us during our times of need. If there is a positive here, it is the incredible people we met along our journey, as well as opening our eyes to the sheer numbers of pets that go missing each day across California.
Any support for Ollie or other animals in need would be greatly appreciated.
