This GoFundMe page is to support Erin & Federico Angel in their fight for their newborn son’s life, Alejandro.
On January 20th, Erin & Federico Angel welcomed their first born son, Alejandro (Alejo) Andres Quinn Angel, into this world. After noticing a little lump on Alejo's leg within the first week of birth, follow-up tests at the BC Children’s Hospital led to the diagnosis of an aggressive and extremely rare form of cancer.
Alejo has been diagnosed with the cancer known as malignant rhabdoid tumor with SMARCB1 mutation on chromosome 22. This protein is in charge of tumor suppression and, without it, the body can't suppress tumor growth. This specific tumor presentation has only been seen in 9 previously recorded cases in the world - making Alejo number 10. Treatment is currently unknown as he is so tiny, only just over 3 weeks old, and not able to safely receive standard cancer treatment procedures at this time.
The Angel Family is currently seeking help from medical professionals worldwide to aid Alejo with his fight against this terrible and rare cancer. Alejo may have access to clinical trials in the US and beyond, at which time, this GoFundMe page will be adjusted as necessary to ask for the support needed to have the chance to access these trials. Updates will be posted on this GoFundMe page as details develop for Alejo’s care.
Please offer your support to Alejo’s parents by contributing any funds you are able to donate at this time to assist their family to maintain their daily needs. Federico is taking an extended work leave to navigate this arduous road ahead; these funds will allow them to focus all of their positive energy and love towards their beautiful little boy.
