Help Fix Katie's Heart
Hi! This is Katie! She's a 6-month-old Corgi puppy who enjoys typical puppy activities, such as...
Napping.
Judging your life choices.
Splooting.
And being adorable.
Katie is a happy and healthy little thing — except for her heart condition. She was diagnosed a few months ago with Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), a common-but-serious congenital heart condition that will eventually prove fatal if not treated. You can read more about PDA here: https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/patent-ductus-arteriosus-in-dogs
For this little pup, her PDA has resulted in a grade 5/6 heart murmur. You can feel it if you put your hand on her chest — it's a pretty strange thing to experience. The good news is that once this is fixed, it's fixed! She'll have a normal life expectancy and should experience no issues as she grows up.
Katie was taken in by the Res-Q-Pets rescue in Hamilton, NJ, after being surrendered by her breeder due to what we all hoped was an "innocent" murmur that she would outgrow. Katie lives with her humans Heather and Justine now, and they're reaching out to their friends and family and the kindness of the Internet at large for some help raising funds to assist with Katie's treatment and recovery.
Her surgery is scheduled for June 16th, 2021, and is estimated to cost between $5,000 - $6,000, not including the vet bills that have already been covered for echocardiograms and related diagnostic costs. She does have pet insurance, but just like with human insurance... her PDA is a pre-existing condition, and so it's not covered at all.
Any amount will help, and if we exceed our fundraising goal any additional funds raised will go toward the rescue who took her in.
Heather and Justine thank you so much for taking the time to read this and consider helping their sweet puppy, and Katie thanks you too!
