Help Equip New Orleans Makerspace
The Workshop is a co-operative, community makerspace serving woodworkers, metal workers, tinkerers, and hobbyists in New Orleans. The shop originally opened in the winter of 2020 and was hindered in its growth by the pandemic, in this time we have still managed to host a number of talented crafts people and even incubate a few businesses. Operations of the shop changed hands in June of 2021 and we very quickly realized maintaining this space and reaching its full potential would be a full time job. We are launching this campaign in an effort to raise much needed funds to maintain the shop and usher us into the next chapter of our growth. We will graciously accept donations of tools listed or not listed in the needs section below.
The Goal:
- Raise enough money to upgrade fixtures, equipment, and host classes and workshops for the community. A total of $20,000.
- File for and acquire 501c(3) status - this is a process that takes at least six months and a lot of hard work.
- Offer a financially accessible workspace for New Orleanians.
The Vision:
- Create an equitable workspace and learning environment that fosters creativity and collaboration.
- Offer welding, woodworking, and design courses for the community - ideally at low cost.
- Have the ability to offer small repair services to neighbors.
- Act as an incubator for small fabrication businesses.
- Have fun, invent, and make cool stuff.
