Help Emily Anne With Rent During Surgery

"Y'all know me, still the same old E, but I been low key..."

I've set up this gofundme for making sure my rent is paid through the end of my lease (December 1) while I pay down these medical bills.

If you've known me for any length of time, you know that GERD/silent reflux is destroying my life. I have lung nodules, periodontitis, enamel loss, extreme throat and vocal cord damage, sinus damage, high blood pressure and massive cortical fat storage from the stress.

I can barely ride my bike, and I can't run or lift weights any more without choking on stomach acid.

80mg of Omeprazole per DAY was not managing my reflux. My doctors are testing me for Fundoplocation surgery, which basically looks like a corset on my esophagus made out of stomach tissue.

In June 2023, medical issues forced me to take a hiatus from DJing with the amazing crew of Resurrection, New Orleans' First Friday Gothic dance event.

Since then, I have received testing and presurgical care totaling over $3,000 out of pocket: I have Cigna health insurance through my job, for which I pay $450/month.

Despite working a full-time job, commuting via bicycle, and setting up payment plans, my medical bills continue to mount as I prepare for my fundoplocation stomach surgery. At the time of starting this GFM, I have a BRAVO implant lodged in my esophagus and must carry a "reader" to input data multiple times a day.

The fundoplocation surgery is tentatively slated for November 2023, pending the results of my manometry, barium-swallow, gastroduodenumoscopy and the data from the BRAVO implant. An estimate has not yet been provided by either the insurance company or the Surgeons Group of Baton Rouge.

Here is a step by step breakdown of the procedure:

Between the out of pocket cost for presurgical and diagnostic care, the expected out of pocket for the fundoplocation, and the work that I shall miss during my recovery period, I have grave concerns about my ability to meet the terms of my lease through December 1st, 2023.

My fundraising goal, $3,000, will exclusively apply to the next four months' rent, at $750/month, to ensure continued secure housing through surgery and recovery.
