Help with Donna’s fight against rare breast cancer

2021 started as a year of hope, the year when we were excited to finally get back to a new normal. However, for my mom, any plans of family get togethers, vacations, or even just work would be shattered by her diagnosis: the dreaded “C” word. Cancer. My mother, Donna, found a lump under her left armpit in January 2021, which would soon be diagnosed as breast cancer. We were devastated to say the least, but our world soon would be shattered. After her biopsy and CT, we learned that she has triple negative metaplastic carcinoma breast cancer, and it has traveled to her left breast as well. This type of cancer accounts for less than 1%, and it is very aggressive, with a high tendency for reoccurrence.

Unfortunately, my mom did not have insurance before her diagnosis and had to get a very high deductible plan of $16,000 for deductible and out of pocket per year. Her treatment will be going into 2022. The Cancer center is in Reno and is a 5 hour round trip from her home. She currently has weekly chemo treatments, 16 total, and once she starts radiation, she will either have to drive 3-5 times a week or get a hotel. Surgery will be necessary, but we are unsure of how many and when.

My mother and father live alone out of state and although have been trying to fight this all alone, I need to remind them that with this diagnosis, they are not alone. Together, we will fight, and we will beat this.

For those who don’t know Donna, she is a mother, a Grammy and she has always taken care of others and put herself last. She would never want to burden anyone with asking for financial help, but I know in a heartbeat she has always helped others.

I’d love to be able relieve some of her financial stress so she can just focus on healing.
