Help Declan get a motorised wheelchair
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
Our names are Helena and Dominic. Declan is our little brother.
Declan is 16 years old and was born with quadriplegic cerebral palsy. As a result of his restricted mobility he has been using self propelling wheelchairs to move around for most of his life.
As he got older, his physio suggested that he gets a motorised wheelchair because while Declan is self propelling, he is creating more problems with his posture, especially as he already has scoliosis.
The NHS wont provide the funding because he doesn't meet their criteria that would allow them to provide a motorised wheelchair for him.
However, his physio feels that without a power chair, Declan will deteriorate quicker due to bad posture while he is self propelling.
Declan had an assessment using a power chair, and immediately enjoyed the freedom it gave him and the ability to get around so easily.
As this power chair costs so much, there is no way that we as a family can raise the funds to get it any time soon and so we are looking for any additional means to raise the funds in order to give Declan his freedom.
