A Tale of Our Times (aka, Dave Demke update!): As if we needed another example of the political becoming personal: when last we left our hero Dave Demke and his fearless partner in cancer-busting, Caley Milliken, Dave was battling esophageal cancer with a combination of his signature wit, warmth and resolve - aided in no small part by the extraordinary team of doctors and support staff at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Today, the good news is Dave’s tumor is doing what it ought - shrinking! The less good news - like so many in our country, Dave and Caley are in a jam. Caley, working two jobs to make ends meet, now makes juuuuust a little too much for Dave to qualify for Medicaid. Dave, while simultaneously kicking cancer’s ass, is also attempting to find full-time employment - meantime, his unemployment compensation has run out. The solution - of course! Be forced to buy insurance that costs as much as your monthly rent! Why didn’t *I* think of that?

My sense is that Dave and Caley feel a bit embarrassed about having to ask a second time for our help, to which I’m sure I can confidently respond for us all in saying - “we’ll have none of THAT, thank you very much!!” If ya love these two like I do (and I know you do!), please make a donation - no amount too small, and like they say, none too large!
