This GoFundMe Page is for La Quinta city residents who will join us (N4N) in signing a petition to place, on either a citywide special election or general election, a Ballot
Initiative to limit rentals in residential zoned communities to a minimum of 30 days. We are asking our concerned neighbors and over 2,400 N4N members to join us and
support this important petition with their signature. You can learn how to sign the
petition on our website. The contributions to this GoFundMe page will go directly to consultants and law firms that support this initiative.
Why Neighbors for Neighborhoods LQ was created?
The number of STVR’s have grown exponentially over the past several years bringing
the problems created by Short Term Vacation Rentals (STVRs) to every La Quinta neighborhood. STVR investors are not neighbors. They are all too often converting residential homes into weekend party houses destroying the quality of life for their neighbors. Unfortunately, these short-term renters routinely violate community rules, city ordinances and trespass on private property. Efforts to resolve these abuses by reporting violations and leveling fines have been mostly ineffective. Requiring residents to be the first responders to enforce city rules compromise our quality of life.
N4N was created to recruit and unite homeowners from all La Quinta communities to
stop the commercial exploitation of our neighborhoods and to develop a vision to restore residents’ peace, quiet, safety and quality of life which are constantly being altered and disrupted by STVRs. N4N developed “Vision for La Quinta”, a 100-page report complete with survey and presented our findings and recommendations to City Council on January 12, 2021. Partly due to our efforts, the City Council passed a “Stay” on new STVR permits in April,6 2021 which stops new permitting in R-1 zones but does nothing to prevent problems from occurring for the 1,000+ STVRs (30 day or less) currently operating in the city. Unfortunately, this “Stay” is only temporary and the city council may return to unlimited permitting of STVRs with no limitation of length of stay. This even though most every other Coachella Valley city has sided with residents and passed ordinances to ban STVRs.
Why a Ballot Initiative?
The petition will allow the creation of a Ballot Initiative that allows the residents to express their will. A yes vote will restrict STVRs from R-1 residential zones but will permit and promote STVRs in any of the nine Tourist Zones in La Quinta.
