Help Chicago AAPI Youth See First AAPI Super Hero

Donation protected

Shang-Chi is the first-ever Marvel film starring Asian heroes, made by Asian filmmakers and celebrating Asian culture. It is an exciting moment for the Asian community, and moreover, it's hugely important that Asian children be given the chance to watch this film.

Chicago Asian Network is joining the #ShangChi Challenge on GoFundMe along with our friends at Gold House for #GOLDOPEN to help send AAPI Youth in Chicago to go see the movie.

Our goal is to send 80 AAPI youth + chaperones from various AAPI youth organizations in Chicago.

Every child deserves to feel seen. They deserve to see themselves represented on screen as strong, worthy, and as the superheroes that they are! Proper representation of different cultures is critically important for all children so that they understand that people of all colors and backgrounds are to be embraced and valued. The release of a blockbuster film like Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, has the opportunity to make a powerful impact on the way that Asian children see themselves.

Please consider donating for even one kid to see themselves represented on the big screen.

Cost breakdown:

$15.50 per children’s ticket

$18.50 per adult ticket

$25 for refreshments per 1 child and 1 chaperone

Ticket Distribution

We have partnered with Project Vision to help distribute tickets to the AAPI Youth

Project: VISION (PV) is a grassroots nonprofit organization with a mission to help youth in Chicago's Greater Chinatown communities reach their full potentials by providing tools for educational, personal, and civic development. We take a holistic approach to positive youth development, where PV youth are supported to LEARN, encouraged to SERVE, and finally empowered to LEAD.

They hope to help youth succeed academically and overcome barriers and gain equal access to education and career opportunities to develop as well-rounded, confident young adults who care about their community and have the potential to become our future leaders. more info at https://projectvisionchicago.org/
