Help Bring a Refugee Family to Halifax NS.

We Need Your Support
We are a group of Nova Scotians who have formed a sponsorship group to bring a family living in a Sudanese refugee camp to Halifax, NS Canada. The family we will be sponsoring consists of two young daughters and their mother, Yrgalem. All family members have already been granted UN refugee status and are eligible to be sponsored to come to Canada.
All funds raised will remain in Canada and used to support the family during their first year in Halifax. This will include helping them to settle into an apartment, supply household furniture, and buy food, clothing, and personal items.
About the Family
In August of 2014, facing increasing persecution and brutality by the authorities in their home country of Eritrea, this family escaped to Sudan. The family lived in the Shagarab Refugee camp before moving to the city of Khartoum, where Mom, Yrgalem is working very hard to keep the family going on a small cleaner's salary. Her daughters are very bright and doing well in school, but will not have any opportunities for legal employment in Sudan and they cannot return to their home.
There is a strong and supportive group of family and friends here in Nova Scotia that are eager to help with settling the family when they arrive.
How to Help
Donations of any amount would be very much appreciated. The family is aware of this campaign and is so very thankful!
All funds will b held in trust here in Canada and used only to support the family upon their arrival in Halifax.
Other Ways to Help
Our other responsibilities as a sponsorship group are to support the family as they settle into their new community, help find doctors and dentists, enrolling the children in school, helping the mother search for employment and with tasks like setting up bank accounts, getting government ID and finding their way around Halifax.
We are hopeful that, with your help, the family can be in Halifax in about one year's time.
Supporters will be updated as this campaign and the sponsorship process progresses.
