Help Bret Frerichs Reclaim His Livelihood

My name is Teresa, and I am raising funds for Bret Frerichs to purchase a truck to reclaim his independence and get back to work! Here is his story...

Hey everyone-

Seventeen months ago, I was a healthy, able-bodied young man. I started my own hay cutting, baling and hauling business when I was 16 and always looked forward to doing it every year. There’s nothing better than sitting on a tractor and working outside.

On the night of September 13, 2023, I went to bed with back pain, only to wake up the next morning unable to stand or use my legs. Rushed to the ER at the Medical Center of the Rockies, my condition worsened as numbness spread from my feet to my chest. An MRI revealed a vascular malformation, bleeding in my spinal column, pinching my spinal cord and damaging my nervous system. I was urgently airlifted to Anschutz Medical Center for emergency surgery to halt the bleeding and relieve the pressure.

After a month at Anschutz, I moved to Craig Hospital for rehabilitation but faced another setback with fluid build-up requiring a second surgery. Discharged on November 22, 2023 and months of outpatient therapy, my legs still have very limited functionality, and I rely on a wheelchair.

Here's where I need your help: I've been out of work for 17 months now, and I'm desperately eager to reclaim my independence and return to what I love—my hay business and animals. Since I started this venture at just 16 in 2010, and continuously expanding it, it's been my dream to grow it into something truly special. Driving is key to this, but my old truck with its manual transmission won't do; I need a reliable, heavy-duty truck that can be adapted with hand controls.

I'm reaching out to you to help me get back on my feet, or rather, behind the wheel. Your contribution to this fundraiser will go directly towards buying a used truck that I can drive with hand controls, allowing me to continue my business, take care of my animals, and find joy in the freedom that comes from sitting on a tractor again.
