****************** UPDATE ******************
May 24th 2021

Thank you so much for helping with this cause! We've collected a total of USD $5,100.00. While that is not our full goal, we are approaching the end of May, and as it seems we are not receiving further donations, we've decided to close the funding, and start with the execution phase. With this amount, based on our research of the local current market prices, we will be able to donate to approximately 145 families.  Things will now start to move fast, so please stay tuned for future updates. And thank you, again. You are making a real difference to the world!

***********************************************

As Covid-19 continues to impact our societies, poor nations like Brazil are now going through what could be best described as a socio-economic tragedy. Millions of people that lived out of informal economies, or now closed businesses, are literally on the brink of starvation. In the southern-most parts of the country, where winter is real and fast approaching, the situation is even more perilous.

The poor in Lages, a town located in Santa Catarina, Brazil, is suffering tremendously from rampant unemployment, school closures, and lack of adequate government support. Looking to give back, last year we decided to help out one of its communities. So we raised money and were able to help provide enough food and other basic supplies to last for a full month to 150 of those families. This year we want to do it again, but going larger, as the situation has worsened, and more are in need. To support it, we are opening this up to others that might be willing to help us.

Our target is to raise $9,250 USD, which would allow us to help 250 families with basic supplies ("baskets"), made of 26 items, including multiple food products, such as, wheat flour, rice, beans, pasta, and milk. It also includes sanitary products like soap, laundry detergent, toothpaste, dish soap, and hand sanitizer. The full itemization is listed below.

Last year we learned that collecting this money and helping coordinate the donations, while vital, was really the easiest part of the job. We ended up with a challenging logistic scenario, and this wouldn't have worked if it wasn't for the numerous volunteers in Lages, that stepped in to help us out. From the grocery store workers that donated their time after hours to help assemble the baskets, to the courageous church parishioners that, putting their own health at risk during the pandemic, carried out the difficult task of visiting and compiling the list of families that would receive the donations. And finally, the 4 crews of parishioners that donated their time and vehicles to have the baskets delivered to their final destinations. We are honored to be able to help and support their efforts and are blessed that they are willing to step in and help again.

But we first need your help. Any and all donations are welcome and greatly appreciated by us and those 250 families in desperate need! We are committed to executing the distribution of the baskets by June, ahead of the harsh winter, and when the infection rate is expected to reach its peak. We will update this frequently once the donation effort is in progress. Thank you!
