Hello! My name is Jackie. If you know me, you know that I'm obsessed with my dog, Bingo. I adopted him from a shelter in 2021 and he's been my best friend and little shadow ever since. He's one of the sweetest, silliest, and most loving dogs I've ever known, and I'm so lucky to have him.
On March 2nd, Bingo started crying in pain and exhibiting symptoms of IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease). We took him to the vet and got pain medication for him, but after a week and a half he was still in extreme pain. He has had flare ups of IVDD in the past, but they usually get better after a few days of medication and rest, so we were very worried to see that he was not improving. We took him to a neurologist, and after her advice and careful consideration, she recommended he get an MRI and surgery (cervical ventral slot surgery). After the MRI confirmed Bingo had a herniated disc in his neck that was pushing against his spinal cord and causing intense pain, we moved forward with surgery on Friday March 14th.
The surgery went very well and Bingo was recovering and in much less pain. Unfortunately, on Sunday March 16th, Bingo began showing symptoms of pain in a different area of his back as well as losing function in his back legs. A CT scan confirmed he had another herniated disc in his back pushing against his spinal cord. The vet told us this was very uncommon and unfortunately very unlucky to have another herniated disc right after the first. Due to the extent of the herniation, our vet recommended another surgery to relieve the pain and help restore his neurological function.
Thankfully, the second surgery went very well and Bingo is now recovering, hopefully with a smooth road ahead. I have never seen him in so much pain before, and it has been extremely heartbreaking and tough. I'm hopeful that he can soon go back to being his silly self and happily cuddling on the couch with us.
Unfortunately, the MRI and surgery were extremely expensive, especially as we had to go through two surgeries. I am very fortunate to have savings to help cover the cost, but any help would be appreciated to avoid depleting my entire savings account and credit cards. The total quote estimate from the vet was from $15,508 to $19,451. We are asking for help with about half of the cost to help us afford his care.
Bingo means so, so much to me and I'd give him the world if I could. I'd do anything to help him and I'm so glad I could help relieve the pain he was in with surgery. Any small donation amount would be a huge help to us and take a huge burden off our backs. Thank you so much!
