Help Biggie Smalls Get His Eye Surgery

Hi, my names is Myàh Underwood. Back in Dec of 2023, my neighborhood FB group posted a picture of a lost bulldog. My husband seen the post and didn’t think anything of if other than another a neighbor’s dog had gotten out. I’m telling you, these kind of post happened daily! Fast forward to this past May 10th, I’m strolling on FB at 3AM and see that a neighbor had found a bulldog wandering around. She posted that she was looking for someone to keep the dog because she couldn’t due to her already having 3 dogs. I immediately contacted her about the dog and told her I would help until we found the dog’s owners. The next morning I was speaking with my husband about fostering the dog until we found his owners and my husband says “That looks like the bulldog that was missing back in December, go search for the post. If it is, that dog is in bad shape.” He also told me that he wasn’t willing to take in a dog in his condition because we didn’t know anything about him; understandable. I’m telling you guys, I couldn’t let it go. I kept talking with the neighbor to get some back story on him and she couldn’t answer the basic questions. For example, Is he microchipped? Where are the owners? Is he sick? Does he get along with other dogs? Can he walk up and down stairs? When you took him to the vet today, did they say anything about his health? There was something about him that I was so drawn to and was quickly invested in finding his owners.
Over that weekend, I see another post about him and this time it’s stating that this bulldog was abandoned and dumped in the neighborhood around December and they’ve been trying to find a home for him since then with no luck. Now, my heart is breaking for this bulldog and wanted to do something to help! I spoke to husband AGAIN and basically pleaded with him to support me in helping the best we could. He eventually agreed under very specific circumstances, we had to find the owners and return him or take him to the nearest animal shelter. That following Monday, I went to meet him at another neighbors house. If you’re still with me, this is the second neighbor I’m taking to about this bulldog. As I’m looking at him, I see he’s not in the best shape and needed medical attention badly. He has a very bad untreated cherry eye, swollen paws, his wrinkles were stained to beyond, he hadn’t had a bath in months. As I was talking to my neighbor about him she tells me that he was for sure abandoned and was passed around to at least 3 different homes over the course of 6 months and had been locked in crates in their garages. They basically only provided some food, water, and shelter. That’s it!
After picking him up, we headed straight to the Vet to see if we can get his microchip scanned. We were successful in doing so but was met with disappointment when we found out his microchip number came back with no information on it. I even called the microchip company to see if they may have any information on him and the Rep told me that this happens all the time with abandoned dogs. Dog owners buy their microchips on Amazon, inject their dog but don’t bother to register their dog’s microchip number. So sad! I then make an appointment to have him checked and evaluated. As we’re setting the appointment, the admin behind the desk asked me what his name is, I was like “hmm, I don’t know. I don’t think he has a name so let’s call him Biggie Smalls”.
Biggie and I leave the vet’s office and head to Petco to get just a few much needed essentials to help make him feel a little comfortable while we figure things out for him. Guys over the course of 6 months while Biggie was being passed around from house to house, no one bothered in getting him a collar, a leash, a bowl, pillow, let alone a toy. I knew bringing him home was such a huge risk because, we already have a 12 yr old Frenchie named Tupac and didn’t know how he would react to having Biggie around. Plus we didn’t know if he was healthy! To our surprise, they hit it off!
It’s now Thursday, the morning of Biggie’s vet appointment. Y’all I’m a nervous wreck and feeling sad that this was the only attempt since being the neighborhood to get some kind of health treatment. After I provided the staff with a much info on his backstory I had, they were so appreciative that we were cared enough to bring him in to begin his health journey. During his evaluation they were able to tell me that he will need a flee and tick treatment, antibiotic for his allergies, his ears needed MAJOR flushing, treatment to his inflamed paws, surgery on both of his eyes, and that he’s only 1 years old. They also told me that he would need tear drops for the rest of his life because the cheery eye was never treated and has permanently damaged his eye. We didn’t know if he was vaccinated so we added that to the long list of things that he needed too. This poor pup has been through so much and was just a baby (5-6 months old) when he was abandoned/posted back in December.
We are humbly asking for your help to raise $3,000 to cover the cost of the surgery and recovery costs. Any donation towards his surgery is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your help.
It’s now been 12 days of having Biggie in our lives and be have now begun the process of adopting him. He has bonded with all of us, including our autistic son. To see he and Tupac’s bond has been the sweetest to witness. I would say he felt right home from day 1.
